Overview: Pratt Institute School of Architecture Degree Project. Future Ontological Formations.
Project Statement: We propose an interactive architecture that evokes a somatic response from the occupant. The universality and variability of these proto-architectures create a new event typology that is simultaneously experienced collectively and individually. Re-contextualizing these event morphologies in extreme atmospheric environments will allow for the collective narrative to unfold at different scales throughout time.
Role: Design and Computation Lead
Partner: Dana Almathkoor (Research and Theory Lead)
Critics: Abby Coover-Hume, Danielle Willems, Claire Donato
Tools: AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Vray, Maxwell, Lumion, Adobe CC, CNC, Lasercutting, 3D printing
Skills I picked up..
Rigor
Architecture school is no joke, standards are high, and the amount of challenges and failures I experienced helped me grow as a designer. I also finally learned to work smarter, not harder towards the end of my time at Pratt.
Experimentation
With this thesis project, Dana and I approached things very objectively and scientifically. From the beginning, we always had a tendency to try out any idea, but back it up with testing and iteration. If we were set in our ways we would not have uncovered half of the knowledge we took away from this.
Spatial Experience
This project looked at a lot of event precedents for temporal experience from burning man to the Olympics. We also looked into the emotions behind the senses. We were curious if we could create a shared, but individualized experience that could snap people out of their desensitized states. How might we empower and invigorate people spatially?
